Plantain... it's not just a weed |

I have recently stumbled upon a most amazing discovery growing right in my very own front yard (and back yard, and side yard, and everyone else's yards, too...).
It's called Plantain.

Although many people nowadays have not so much as heard of it, for centuries this plant has been used to cure a number of ailments. Being used as a "panacea" (medicinal for everything) in some cultures, one American Indian name for the plant translates to "life medicine." A story is told of an African slave in North Carolina during the colonial era who was granted freedom and a handsom reward for teaching the assembly how to use Plantain to remedy the bites of rattlesnakes. Ancients used this plant to heal the bites of "mad dogs, snakes, and venomous creatures." The most common remedy this plan ...

In reference to my last entry, here is one of the songs that has been greatly ministering to me lately. I was glad to see that Joe and Angela finally got it recorded!

May you be blessed!

Struck down, but not destroyed |

"For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body." 2 Corinthians 4:6-11
The Lord wants to be glorified in His children's everyday lives. Many times throughout our lives we encounter hardships and difficulties of all kinds. There's nothing we can do to change this- we live in a dying, hurting world. But we can decide how we will resp ...

I found this poem very encouraging this morning and wanted to share it with you- It is taken from the devotional for May 15 in Streams in the Desert by Mrs. Charles E. Cowman.
“I cannot know why suddenly the storm
Should rage so fiercely round me in its wrath;
But this I know- God watches all my path,
And I can trust."

The Roses |

There was once a father who had three sons.
To each of his sons the father gave a small rosebush which he helped them plant by their windows.
"Be patient," the father told his children "pray that your plant grows strong, care for them tenderly;
and one day you will be rewarded for your waiting."
The children each purposed in their hearts to watch and wait, excited at the prospect of a reward.

Trusting, Thankfulness, and Teacups |

Lately I have been learning acceptance with joy.
Acceptance is not the hard part- it's the 'with joy' part that we all sometimes find difficult to put into practice. It always sounds so much easier than it really is.
But, you know- it's been getting easier.
Praise God!
I have been remembering all day an analogy that a friend of mine used a few months ago.
She reminded us, by holding up a teacup, that God has poured us a cup for every day. He poured ...

Right now the afternoon sunlight is flooding through my window, bathing me in it's warmth and light. I am completely surrounded by the love and goodness of my God. I looked up the meaning of "happy" in the dictionary and one of the definitions was "blessed"... I am definately happy today. I am so very blessed. God is always good, and He makes all things beautiful in its time- His perfect time.
"I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you: I will sing praise to your name, O Most High." Psalm 9:1-2
One of my favorite songs is a scripture played and sung by a friend and sister in the Lord named Jill Moore. I am very blessed by it, and I want you to be blessed by it, too.

Tonight Dad and Mom went out to eat. What Dad doesn't know is that Mom reserved a room for them at a Bed and Breakfast Inn many miles away in a little historic town for the weekend. Two days ago was Dad and Mom's twentieth anniversary. Can you believe it?! 20 years together... and they love each other now even more than they did the day they were married. I watched my dad this past year as he took care of my mom during her many illnesses. I watched as he comforted her, prayed with her and did everything possible to ease her pain and make her comfortable. There were times when we feared that Mama wasn't going to pull through. I don't know what Dad was thinking during those times, but for our sakes and Mama's, he remained strong... assuring us all that Mom was going to be okay and praying for us that we would trust the Lord and continue to function as a family amidst the stress and uncertainty. & ...

In life, there are times when we come to the very ends of our ropes. Sometimes we find that our lives are spinning out of our control and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. For some, the struggle is inward; for others, it is outward and physical. Everyone goes through times like this, but not everyone responds in the same way. There are those who press on, and there are those who give up.
There comes a time in each of our lives that we realize that what we know and what we can do is no longer enough. We come to the place where we find the ends of ourselves and it is a horrifying discovery if we have nowhere else to turn. Where do we turn when life suddenly takes a turn for the worst and we find ourselves on a downward spiral? Who can we go to for help when we suddenly discover that we are not in control after all? There is but one answer- God.
There is nothin ...

Just a little poem |

One hundred fingers, big and small; One hundred toes; and that's not all- Count the noses: ten in all; Twenty ears hear Mama call.
Ten pairs of lips; ten pairs of eyes; Ten voices that can laugh or cry.
Twenty hands inside another; Ten hearts that all love each other.
Twenty elbows; twenty knees; Ten tongues licking melting treats.
"Boys against girls!" ten voices call to start a game of basketball.
Ten birthday cakes every year; Ten birthday songs sung loud and clear.
Ten happy smiles on ten bright faces... Ten pairs of eyes see new places...
Ten children love their Dad and Mom... Ten voices lo ...
